REVIEW: Duplicant #2

Book Title: Duplicant #2
Book Description: Duplicant came from my love of dystopian future movies like Minority Report, Blade Runner, and a little known movie called Repo: The Genetic Opera. The idea of repo men for organs struck a creative chord in me, and I decided to do my own unique twist on it. At its heart, Duplicant is a thriller about the forces conspiring against the one man who offers hope during a pandemic. That one man is Matt Travers, a scientist who creates duplicate organs that saves humanity from the organ failure contagion - only their high cost forces people into indentured servitude. In answer to this, a dangerous black market arises which is run by a religious fanatic and Matt's former mentor.

Summary
Note: Read our review of Duplicant #1 here, but take note the star rating was under the old system, and therefore a higher rating than it would achieve under our new rating structure. For a guide on how to interpret our ratings, skip to the end of this article!
Duplicant is a fantastic series and one I’m proud to have supported on Kickstarter before Second Sight brought it to comic shops! The story is intriguing and plays out issue by issue like a great TV drama/sci-fi series. The issues are paced perfectly and leave you with more questions than answers. Issue 2 picks up right where issue 1 left us but don’t expect many answers to your issue 1 questions!
The art and the color palette are perfect for the story. The art almost gives a dreary sci-fi Gotham City vibe, or, to put it another way, the art visually evokes, for me, how quarantining during COVID has felt. Which, for this story, is brilliant!
Duplicant #2 is a great read and I highly recommend the series to everyone, especially if you like dystopian sci-fi! Reading it during COVID just adds to the feeling of helplessness felt throughout the narrative. Nappi is crafting an intense drama that will leave you craving more!
