About the Book:

This story is about a man named Alex, who seems to have special abilities and connections to the occult. While at the same time using those abilities and connections to find others

Reviewer’s Notes:

This story starts off slow and introduces us to the main character Alex and a librarian at the national archive. I find the character to be subtle though through the panels you can see magic of some kind is part of the story line. As the story unfolds especially when the subject of research comes up we learn that it is related to the occult.

While I personally do not have any real knowledge of that subject I know that it can be dangerous and fascinating at the same time, and that everyone’s take on the matter can be a little bit different. The take that this story offers is interesting enough to keep the reader interested, even if there is very little to go on in the first book.

The cover art is kind of ambiguous about what is actually going on, showing the pentagram and the main character right in front a large pile of books with the pentagram on the wall behind. Clearly hinting at what is to come in the story. The simple color scheme makes the cover easy to look at with the artwork well defined behind white title art. Bringing an interesting look to the appearance.

The interior artwork while drawn in the same style is more vibrant with more use of color, ensuring that the book is not just a minimal color scheme. Using shadowing effect when needed but not overpowering the reader enough to take from the story. The lettering is there and is well defined allowing for the reader to understand what’s going on as it happens, and allowing the reader to follow along with ease.

Overall this is a great start into the series, while I am not completely invested in the characters yet I am interested enough to see where it goes and grab the next issue.  The book in it’s entirety is a quick read concentrating more on story than the actually occult itself. Which I think is a good thing, allowing the readers to invest in the story rather than the semantics.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s I grew up as an eclectic geek, a fact that still holds true today. I grew up watching all the classic cartoons of the 80's and had many an adventures with the toys that went with. Played tabletop RPG's and still enjoy computer gaming as adulting allows. On top of making time to read comics, and spend time with family and friends.
