About the Book:

Catherine Sohon is investigating an ivory poaching ring in Zambia. The deeper she dives into this investigation the more convoluted it becomes. She’s already been shot at, taken hostage, and been within meters of someone being killed in cold blood. How can she be expected to bring the criminals to justice when there’s no one, law enforcement or otherwise, that she can trust?

Reader’s Notes:

As I go further along with Ivory Ghosts, I’m becoming convinced beyond all doubt Catherine Sohon is far more of a badass than Indiana Jones. Dr. Jones makes it work with comedy and good luck. Dr. Sohon is all about skill, keeping a level head, and not panicking.

Dr. Sohon is in an unenviable situation. People want her dead before she learns too much. Who are these people though? Is it the poachers? Is it the government officials that stand to lose a significant amount of money in bribes? Every expedition with someone is a leap of faith.

From the cover to the last panel in the interior pages Debora Carita’s attention to detail is exquisite. It’s minutiae like adding texture to the leaves in the background that brings it all together. Her work puts the reader right in the middle of the African savanna.

I discovered Ivory Ghosts in the summer of 2022 and instantly loved the title. Four issues later I’m still loving it. This is a title that does not disappoint. It has drama, action, and excitement. Best of all, it has the benefit of being based on the autobiography about the author’s experiences! Why learn history from a textbook when you can learn about what was happening from someone that was there?!

I grew up loving all things geek. I started reading and collecting comics when I was 8. My personal collection has roughly 8,000 books in it. When I’m not doing something geek-related I love spending time with my amazing wife and kids, gaming, and working on cross stitch projects.
