About the Book:

When we last saw Cloudia she had just escaped Fairyland and found her way into our realm. Once here, Cloudia is having trouble adjusting to safely avoiding the dangers that we have become accustomed to. She finds herself going from one life threatening situation to another while we receive random social media updates about a celebrity couple.

Reader’s Notes:

“I Hate Fairyland” is one of my favorite titles because the creative team does not take itself seriously. The title has become a reincarnation of “Mad Magazine”. We get to have some laughs and a social commentary of sorts.

The social commentary regarding a certain celebrity couple is pretty spot on. The amount that people are paying attention to what a particular performer and athlete are doing in their free time is going to lead to trouble.

We saw how someone watching updates on what the power couple is up to instead of doing their jobs could lead to an accidental death. This is not on the power couple. This is on the paparazzi and media outlets telling people that they have to be obsessed with the power couple. Folks, “You Need to Calm Down”.

I enjoyed how Mr. Bean pulled inspiration from the interior pages for this cover. Gertie being bored and torturing gingerbread men with a spatula is a bit messed up…. Which is why I’m so fond of this cover. Besides, over the years this isn’t the worst thing that we’ve ever seen Gertie do.

Mr. Bean’s work on the interior pages continues to be a perfect fit for this title. This issue was a fun change of pace. Instead of having an entire issue on aggressive and hostile Gertrude making everyone in her path miserable we have Cloudia giving us “Stupid Ways to Die: Fairyland Edition”. It works brilliantly.

As a geek on a budget I would recommend this book for someone that wants to have a few laughs over some farcical situations. It also makes a great read for people who need to see just how obsessed everyone has become with the power couple I am sure people will be able to “Shake It Off”.

I grew up loving all things geek. I started reading and collecting comics when I was 8. My personal collection has roughly 8,000 books in it. When I’m not doing something geek-related I love spending time with my amazing wife and kids, gaming, and working on cross stitch projects.
