About the Book:

Worms Crawl In #1 is the tale of a man named Marco. Marco had the misfortune of running afoul with the mob. He was murdered, with his mind trapped inside a decaying corpse, and chained to a log in the bottom of a swamp. After years of enduring this torture, Marco gets an opportunity for redemption and revenge when a coed is murdered.

Reader’s Notes:

Worms Crawl In made it onto my radar during an episode of Indie Comix Dispatch’s “Broadcasts From the Dispatch” about a year and a half ago. I remember thinking that it had an interesting sounding premise. I made a mental note to learn more about the title the next day so I could find out where to get a copy.

Because I sometimes have the attention span of a gnat this plan was promptly forgotten. I got a chance for redemption when I saw a promotion for the Worms Crawl In Kickstarter campaign on social media, it was a lightbulb moment. I remembered being curious about the title before and did not hesitate to back it.

When the rewards from the campaign were delivered I was impressed before I even opened the package. Afterlight Comics did not mess around with ensuring that the contents were not damaged. They used a solid packaging method that was almost bomb proof. Given how rough the mail carriers in my area seem to be, knowing books I order can survive this gauntlet is important.

I am very fond of the artwork on this cover. It has great lines and coloring that make it very eye-catching. My youngest would call it “creepy cool”. Covers like this create intrigue. Every time I look at it I notice another small detail. Best of all, it is relevant to the story.

I was very impressed with Mr. Schmidt’s artwork on the interior pages. We get crisp lines, incredible detail, and great facial expressions. I especially liked when Faith made her appearance on the streets.

As a geek on a budget I believe Worms Crawl In #1 is well worth the price of admission. This book has a great foundation for a plot coupled with relatable characters that one can easily find themselves pulling for. I’m very eager to see where this story will take us next!

I grew up loving all things geek. I started reading and collecting comics when I was 8. My personal collection has roughly 8,000 books in it. When I’m not doing something geek-related I love spending time with my amazing wife and kids, gaming, and working on cross stitch projects.
