Summary
“Beware of Toddler” made it onto my radar when my good friend Justice shared a strip from the weekly series on social media. I found it very amusing and started following the strip. When I learned there a physical copy was going to be available I jumped all over it.
Mr. Gant has captured the mind of a child in a way I haven’t seen since Bill Waterson was still doing “Calvin and Hobbes”. We don’t get a stuffed animal playing a vital part of the story like “Calvin and Hobbes”. We get something even better: the perspective of a two year old.
I love how relevant and relatable everything in this strip is. Trying to work from home with children, the battles over brands of fruit snacks, and always wanting “joos” have been things observed in my own home over the last couple years.
With a few exceptions, the artwork is cartoonish. It’s a comic strip. That’s to be expected. What separates this strip from its contemporaries is the coloring. The way Mr. Gant colors his work makes the characters jump off the page and into your heart.
There’s a proper warning on the cover. “Beware of Toddler”. You should because you can split your side laughing.
As a geek on a budget I’m of the opinion that it’s well worth the investment to have something to make you smile in reserve for when it’s been a rough day.

I grew up loving all things geek. I started reading and collecting comics when I was 8. My personal collection has roughly 8,000 books in it. When I’m not doing something geek-related I love spending time with my amazing wife and kids, gaming, and working on cross stitch projects.
