Summary

I have always loved Free Comic Book Day. It’s like being at the movies and seeing all of the previews for the upcoming summer blockbusters. You get to see glimpses of a litany of potential smash hit story arcs.

It’s also a fun day for local comic book stores. They have all sorts of different promotional events. From cosplay, to sales, to charity drives there’s a myriad of different things to see and do. In our home it’s up there with holidays like Halloween and Christmas.

The Free Comic Book Day issue of Stray Dogs was one of the most anticipated books of the day on my list. Would we be getting new material? Is this one going to give us an idea of what to expect when Stray Dogs: Dog Days comes out? Will the FCBD edition of Stray Dogs give people a glimpse of what the TPB will look like when it comes out next month?

Interestingly enough, the answer to all of these questions is, “Yes”.

In the prologue we get to meet Fritzie, We get some of his backstory, which is going to be the theme of Stray Dogs: Dog Days. The new content also helps fill in the blanks for people that are new to the Stray Dogs story and does a great job of helping promote the upcoming TPB collection of the five book series.

I loved this cover. It simultaneously captures Fritzie’s playfulness and naivety while also showing the sinister intentions of the Master. The interior artwork is terrific. It meshes perfectly with the story to give the reader a vision that makes a psychotic woman wanting to make a coat out of Dalmatian pelts seem tame.

As a geek on a budget you have to love the price of books from Free Comic Book Day. Getting this incredible story for free is an amazing opportunity. Get out to your local comic book store and pick yours up while they’re still available!

I grew up loving all things geek. I started reading and collecting comics when I was 8. My personal collection has roughly 8,000 books in it. When I’m not doing something geek-related I love spending time with my amazing wife and kids, gaming, and working on cross stitch projects.
