Summary
When Brian Neiford asked if he could send in Monsters: The Forsaken 1-4 for me to read before we had him on the show I was excited but nervous. I have been disappointed so many times with a creators “new” take on classic monsters. Very rarely do I get monster books that engage me and hook me from the start, these books did just that! Monsters fighting Hitler, uh… yes please!
I can’t get into the story too much without spoilers, so, just trust me, if you like classic monster movies, classic war movies, and comic books, you’re gonna love this story! Neiford has skillfully crafted a plot that delivers twists, turns, a d surprises in every episode.
The art is well done, nothing earth shattering, but consistent and with a style all Neiford’s own. The art is done in a way that makes you feel like you’re watching and old black and white movie, with pops of color now and then to remind you you’re deeply immersed in a fun, comic book world.
The book is well edited grammatically, but the lettering is a little on the large side. I’m all about dramatic lettering, but smaller word balloons and letters would let the art sing a little more.
This is not a series you want to sleep on, especially if you love classic monsters, and let’s be real… who doesn’t love classic monsters?! Neiford is weaving a fantastic monster universe that seamlessly brings together all your favorites with ease!
I can’t wait for books 5 & 6, speaking of which, they’re on Kickstarter now! Back it here – https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/969274402/monsters-the-forsaken-5-and-6-and-collected-graphic-novel
