About the Book:
Opening up the pages we were greeted by Master Splinter and April O’Neil waiting for some kind of conversation call from the turtles. As the turtles talk to Splinter and April we learn that they are on Eternia.
As the conversation continues we learn how Krang and Shredder become acquainted with Skeletor. As it closes it becomes heartfelt and personal as they explain where they are, who they are with and what they are doing. Once the conversation with home is done they join the forces established by Man-At-Arms and Teela as they prepare to defend Castle Grayskull.
As they defend Castle Grayskull they talk about how He-Man / Adam is missing and as the battle ensues he suddenly appears much to the detriment of the group at hand leading to a devastating result, only to reveal a plot twist that furthers the story arc.
Reviewer’s Notes:
I found the story arc overall interesting. When characters from favored childhood genre’s combine it is usually a fan fest for all involved. But this story takes a different twist as it starts off with a story that has potential and then goes into the multiverse aspect of what happened and how it affects all involved. I found certain parts hit in the feelings and hit deep. But others that seem so far out of the norm it was a little hard to follow.
Ultimately the story does go into a place that makes sense and reveals how things got there and where they are leading, hinting at the excitement yet to come. I found that reading the pages was fast and intriguing and I read it faster than I intended to. I look forward to where this story goes and how it might end.
I will say though that since there is an accompanying toy line that goes with the story there is already a verified indication of where things might go, but the toys only tell part of the story, the future issues will remain interesting nonetheless.
The cover for the issue I read is a wonderful piece of art that blends the trend of the 80’s. As Masters of the Universe was ending Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was just taking off and this cover to a certain degree pays a perfect homage to that. I can totally see this cover being a poster on the wall with the characters being perfectly portrayed in their true form and attitude.
With He-Man upfront right next to Leonardo who are then followed but Donatello and Raphael coming in from behind, as you examine the armor of the turtles mentioned you see how the color schemes and attitude are shown in what they are wearing.
