REVIEW: Cold Dead Hands TPB

Book Title: Cold Dead Hands TPB

Book Description: Meet Kit Kelso. His father was one of the best mercenaries in history. When his father died Kit decided to go into the family business. Here’s the rub. Kit is horribly out of his depth in this line of work. He’s so bad at it that his employer had him tied to a chair and beaten to a bloody pulp. Then for good measure, Kit’s hands are taken off with a saw and he is left to die. That’s probably what would have happened if not for fate intervening. Earlier in the day there was an auction for rare antiquities and weapons of historic significance. Among the items up for bid were the last remains of Athos Matis. They were his hands. According to legend the universe has been held together by a counsel of magical beings that control the fate of our world using heralds. These heralds have deadly abilities bestowed upon them. Matis was a herald that was mortally wounded in the battle of Marathon. He was given a second chance at life and Greece’s well being was promised for centuries to come. The hands sold for 25 million dollars at the auction; but the high bidder never receives them. There’s an attempted robbery of the truck being used to transport all of the items in the auction. The truck goes into the river and it’s precious cargo is washed away…. Until the hands of Matis find Kit and attach themselves to him. Now Kit is a one man army. He just can’t explain how or why. All he knows is that the hands are speaking to him telepathically and they have a job in mind for him.

Summary

Cold Dead Hands is another book in the cache of geeky goodness I picked up during my adventures at Rose City Comic-Con: 2021. When I saw it on the table all the detail on and terrific coloring in the cover artwork grabbed my attention and wouldn’t let go.

Out of the gate this book comes out of its corner swinging as we watch Kit take an absolute beat down. If that wasn’t enough, seeing Kit lose his hands certainly gets your attention. From there we find ourselves on an adventure that I certainly didn’t see coming.

I would have liked to see more detail in the artwork on the interior pages. Given how graphic some scenes were, I completely understand that with this title, less is more.

As a geek on a budget the TPB of Cold Dead Hands is worth the price of admission. It has action, laughs, and intrigue. With this one you’re getting three issues for $10 with the added bonus of the durability that a TPB has compared to the individual issues.

I grew up loving all things geek. I started reading and collecting comics when I was 8. My personal collection has roughly 8,000 books in it. When I’m not doing something geek-related I love spending time with my amazing wife and kids, gaming, and working on cross stitch projects.
