Bitey is an intriguing take on the zombie genre! Creator, writer, and artist for the series, Shaun Evans, sent me copies of Bitey 1 & 2 and I was excited to jump in. I’m a fan of zombie films, but haven’t indulged in a ton of zombie comics. Bitey did not disappoint.

Bitey follows Harmony and her encounters with other survivors while her Zombie mother follows her from place to place. The story and characters are unique and compelling. Evans gives each character a unique voice and personality that really helps propel the story. Each issue is expertly paced and ends with enough intrigue to make you want more!

I personally love that Evans dives you right into the middle of Harmony’s journey. You enter this world with no explanation, just the fact that the world has turned to zombies. Often indie creators have a tendency to info dump, Evans gives you just enough to get you hooked!

Evans illustrations are intense. I love the art, It fits the horror genre perfectly, however it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially because it’s not necessarily your standard comic art. I do feel there’s opportunity to improve the lettering. Lettering can be hard to master and Bitey does a good job, but could improve in some spots.

Bitey is a good, solid read with LOTS of potential for greatness! This one of those series that I get the pleasure of reviewing and then feel compelled to go support the Kickstarter Campaign for the next issue! If horror and/or zombies are your thing, you can’t go wrong with Bitey!
