REVIEW: Basilisk #2

Book Title: Basilisk #2

Book Description: In Basilisk #2 we get to learn more about Chimera and the powers that the members possess. Moreover we learn that the members of Chimera are more like gods than people. We also learn more about why Regan left. She saw what the powers she had did to people. Rather than basking in it like the others it revolted her to the point that she felt the need to leave. We also see that Chimera is continuing pursuit of their lost sheep. That’s exactly what Hannah wants. The others killed her family and ended all things important to her. Now the only important thing is giving these gods their Ragnarok.

Summary

I love how far the character development has grown from the first to the second issue. Now we have an idea of what makes Hannah tick. More importantly, we get an understanding of why Regan left Chimera.

I liked that we get to see the different powers the members of Chimera possess. I’m hoping for more clarification on how exactly the powers are used in the next issue. From what I saw in the diner there’s no arguing how effective they are.

This variant cover is a great elevator pitch! The artwork is detailed, and minimalistic. It doesn’t let someone passing by get away without noticing it. As my youngest would say, “It’s creepy and cool at the same time.”

The artwork on the interior pages was well done. Without needing a word it tells the reader everything they need to know about the kind of havoc Chimera can cause.

The dialogue stepped it up a notch in this issue. It gave us the meat and potatoes when it came to the personalities in the mix. Well done!

As a geek on a budget I would say that this series is shaping up to make a lot of noise. It’s definitely worth it to get in on Basilisk. If you were late to the party, the first issue had a second printing that just came out last Wednesday so you can be up to speed in no time. You’ll be glad you did.

I grew up loving all things geek. I started reading and collecting comics when I was 8. My personal collection has roughly 8,000 books in it. When I’m not doing something geek-related I love spending time with my amazing wife and kids, gaming, and working on cross stitch projects.
