There are few Doctor Who characters that are as iconic as Rose Tyler. Aside from Sarah Jane and Amy Pond none of the others were companions. Periodically we’ve seen Sarah Jane brought back into the fold. Since leaving the show Rose Tyler always comes back. The fact that she was who the Doctor saw as the Moment during the War Doctor cements her place as the most important companion.
In this issue we see Rose with the tenacity of Martha Jones and the level headed wherewithal of Donna Noble. She is fearless while fighting for what is right. She shows us all why she is Bad Wolf.
This story is the ground floor of an exciting new adventure. It promises to have some laughs along the way. Unfortunately if 10 and 13 are successful it also means having to say goodbye to Rose Tyler once again. That was hard enough the first time.
There’s plenty in this story for any Whovian to appreciate. If you aren’t familiar with the Doctor Who franchise, it’s never too late to learn about it. I wouldn’t recommend using this story as a jumping off point though.
I would recommend starting with the 11th episode in season 3. The episode is called “Blink”. You don’t need to know much about Doctor Who to be able to appreciate it. After that start at the beginning of the series and enjoy.
As a geek on a budget I think this issue was definitely worth the price of admission. It’s a great story with a lot of familiar characters. This one came out in late 2020 and isn’t a “key issue” so there should be copies available in the back issue boxes at your local comic book store.
