About the Book:
Krang and Shredder have stolen a meteorite from TCRI. This meteorite is made up of an element unlike any on Earth. It’s too hard to cut. It won’t burn or melt. Krang and Shredder see this meteorite as the key to the ultimate weapon and armor. Krang has a laser that is capable of cutting the meteorite sent from Dimension X. Instead of arriving at the Technodrome the laser arrives in the Bayou. Donatello catches wind of this and two of the turtles are dispatched to recover the laser. Unfortunately for them, Leatherhead found it first.
Reader’s Notes:
The action and fun surfer talk of the turtles had a generation saying, “Cowabunga, dude!” While it was great to have such fun loving heroes and a catchy theme song (thank you Chuck Lorre) I always appreciated the turtles’ rogues gallery. With Krang, Shredder, Bebop, Rocksteady, Baxter Stockman, and others there was never a shortage of ideas for content.
Leatherhead was always a favorite of mine. Maybe it’s because he was once an alligator. Maybe it’s because he reminded me of my grandfather. All I know is there were never enough stories focusing on him. It was refreshing to see him again in this story.
I love how Mr. Burnham’s work in TMNT: Saturday Morning Adventures #4 captured the magic of the original cartoon series. We get the same tempo and feeling that we got all those years ago. It’s a little campy and predictable in spots. Considering it’s a children’s book based on a children’s show that is to be expected.
I like the artwork on this cover. It has good lines and spot on coloring. Best of all, it keeps with the nostalgic theme of the series, while showing us why Leatherhead is such a formidable foe.
On the interior pages the artwork looks like a collection of film cels from an episode that never aired. It’s perfect for this book’s target audience. I enjoyed the panels with the poachers.
As a geek on a budget I believe that TMNT: Saturday Morning Adventures Continued #4 is a must read for fans of the cartoon series. We get some laughs, some action, and the opportunity to catch up with some old friends.
