About the Book:

Emily Anderson has it all. She’s the daughter of a business tycoon. She has incredible friends. She’s getting married to an architect that would do anything to make her happy. Her wedding day is the stuff most women have thought about since they were little girls; but she has cold feet. Before she can tell her fiancé how she feels the entire wedding is taken hostage.

Emily is wearing a $250 million dollar necklace that’s on loan from a French museum for the event. The Bad Elvis Gang sees this wedding as a heist that will leave them set for life, provided personal histories don’t get in the way.

Reader’s Notes:

“Going to the Chapel” made it onto my radar at Rose City Comic-Con in 2021. I was at Mr. Pepose’s booth and we were talking about another title of his, “Scout’s Honor”. I saw this title among the books he had available for sale. I almost pulled the trigger on it then. The only thing that stopped me was being on a limited budget and already having a copy of another title of his (“The O.Z.”) in my hand.

When the Kickstarter campaign for the second issue of “The O.Z.” came out the TPB of “Going to the Chapel” was available as an add on. That selection was made with zero hesitation. When the rewards from the campaign arrived it went into my reading queue and waited.

I’m sorry I waited so long to read this story. It’s an outstanding blend of action, drama, and comedy. I loved the twists and turns that the story took as the adventure progressed.

We get great character development on the key players. We don’t get as much for the minor characters. There are enough anecdotes from those characters to remind the reader of someone they know.

I liked how the artwork on this cover was done. It’s just Emily and Tom with a minimalistic style of the church in the background. The style makes its case for the story without a lot of distractions. It’s a great argument for why less is more.

In a break from tradition, the artwork on the interior pages is more detailed than the cover. This seldom happens when all of the work is done by the same artist. I’m all for it. With the way comic book covers are the periodical version of clickbait I’d rather go this route.

We get great line work and coloring. The facial expressions are terrific. The coloring on the grandmother  steals the show. It made her very relatable.

As a geek on a budget I believe “Going to the Chapel” is well worth the price of admission. We get a love story, crime thriller, and lots of laughs all rolled into one. I highly recommend checking this one out!
