About the Book:
The zebras sense a danger is coming to the Pridelands. They realize just how dangerous Scar is now that Simba has displaced him in the order of succession. Scar gets an unpleasant reminder of where he ranks in the hierarchy from the lionesses after an unsanctioned hunt. With his ego bruised the vultures, Krass and Kabeer, see an excellent opportunity to show Scar a path that could lead to him ruling the Pridelands.
Reader’s Notes:
As we get into the meat and potatoes of this series I am truly appreciating the story development. We knew Scar was hungry for power from the movie. When we first saw him he was throwing a pity party for himself.
You could tell something happened in the time between Simba’s presentation and coaxing him into adventuring to the elephant graveyard. With Disney Villains: Scar #2 we don’t have every piece of the puzzle. We are getting enough pieces to make some educated guesses though.
I liked how the artwork was done for this cover. With the line work and coloring it looks like a cel from “Be Prepared”. I instantly found that song playing through my head when I saw this book on the shelves at my local comic book store.
Fraley’s artwork on the interior pages continues to be solid. The work with facial expressions helps pull readers deeper into the story. I was particularly fond of the hyenas.
As a geek on a budget I believe Disney Villains: Scar is a must read series. It is well thought out and gives Lion King fans some fun nuggets. Best of all, this series won’t break the bank. It’s a limited series, so in four books you get the entire story! You won’t be on the hook for $4.00 to $12.00 a month for an indefinite amount of time so you can find out what happens next. You have to love that!
